As a ThriftTrac user, we are considering entering all volunteer production in a processing summary under a single user account. We would include the hours and the items processed for all volunteers. At the end of the week, we will have the total volunteer hours and total items processed. Is this process the best way to capture the productivity of our volunteers?

      Great question, @kcharles!

If you want to know the efficiency of your volunteers, your idea would certainly work. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

      • It’s a good idea to only track completely processed items, not items in-process. So, many team members (or volunteers) may include hours of work without any processed items, since they only received donations or presorted items.
      • The dashboard in ThriftTrac displays processing efficiency by incorporating all recorded hours and all pieces processed. So, the inclusion of all volunteer hours will likely lower the efficiency for the entire team.
      • A custom dashboard can be created exclude volunteer hours from the efficiency calculation for your team yet still be available to determine volunteers contribution to your processing function.
